So beautiful
that shoreless sea.
I’m groping for words,
can’t find them.                                                                                                                                                                                                              - 1993

How far away
does a man have to go
before he meets himself?
Realizes, that what he has been
searching for,
has been
    in him
       always.

A feeling of loneliness
came in that trainyard.
Una bionda per la vita,
and the thirty-sixes pinched
the soles of my feet.

Only a moment ago
I was sitting and counting
the whitecaps,
watching at their inviting fingers,
swinging myself with them.
And somewhere between
    the wind
        and the ocean
I lost myself.

This wasn’t a dream

I watched that quitar
and that leather jacket
which were leaning against
the edge of the fountain.
The jacket took the quitar
and yanked a couple of vibras.
It threw the quitar into the water
and didn’t pick it up anymore.
Jimi, is it?

She sets her kerosene lamp
on the floor,
sits down and sees
how the bronze rider
and the marble lion
fill the room.

I would like to sit quietly
on the shore of ignorance
where nothing
needs even to be simplified.

As a third person
I observed myself,
analyzed my mind.
I realized how
momentary my body was,
how self-sacrificing my soul.

I need a friend
like a river needs a bed,
but loneliness
like an ocean needs a rocky shore.

In a dream
I picked from the sea a pearl,
in which I could see a face,
my face.
I saw my innermost being
and stretched out my hand,
yet I thought
it was still beyond my reach.

I sat for a long time
watching the waves
and saw how they
rose towards me.
I sat for a long time
in the wind and the rain.
    Two waves travelled
    in each others’ arms
    and the tired land
    greeted them happily.

Sometimes, when I’m
waiting for sleep,
I make my thoughts dance
on the walls like lights,
that can’t be seen in the dark.
Yesterday, when I was
waiting for sleep,
I reminisced how as the sun set
we had time to think about
how many
    grains of sand
        there are
            in a handful
                of sand…
